National Gallery of Denmark
While many locals pride themselves on circling the neighborhood joints, it’s a shame when you think about all that’s being missed. Take, for example, Copenhagen’s National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst). While art lovers, school tour groups and visiting relatives dominate the attendance demographic, the expansive glass atrium offers a quiet and serene space. And if you require a break or are looking for new inspiration, just tour the free permanent exhibitions of Renaissance and contemporary art.
Near the heart of Brooklyn, New York, lies a patch of green rich in the city’s history and flourishing with cultural activities. Inside Prospect Park, you can find the Boathouse, the Audubon Center, the Lefferts Historic House and even a zoo. But it’s the simple green space — often overshadowed by its Central Park sister — that draws in the thinkers, idealists and creatives. Walking through the 585 acres, it’s easy to understand why.
Kalibiru National Park
If an image search of “Kalibiru National Park treehouse” doesn’t send your inner child beaming with joy, there may be larger issues at hand. Deep within the Sleman district of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and perched precariously around a slender treetop, the little wooden platform is not for the faint of heart. Though, for the willing ones, canvassing views await as you sit high above a sea of green and blue.
The Oxford Exchange, with its 124-year-old brickwork and glass conservatory ceiling, is a unique space among its home of stereotypical pale concrete and whitewashed harborfront homes in Tampa, Florida. The restored West Kennedy Boulevard location, originally a stable house in 1891, has become a hub for the creative. The restaurant and bookshop also boasts a Commerce Club business resource center and, perhaps most importantly, a Buddy Brew Coffee bar to fuel those creative minds. One step onto the black and white marble floors of the Oxford Exchange and you may never want to leave.
